about

What happens

Dr Who Am I and Lt O Who Ru achieve the quest and become one in the process. Their separate selves 'die' in the black hole to which they dare to surrender. They go through - and beyond - its total oblivion (nirvana) into the Sun itself, where they become 'total Light'. The motto 'Who Dares Wins' is re-channeled as an act of love-daring in which the 'Who' finds him/herself by losing him/herself. 'Who' was always really God, the Divine Beloved. It is the best feeling ever - a total happiness for which the Universe sprang into existence and which makes everything but itself as if it has never been (which in essence it hasn't). The track begins with their message back to Earth that they have accomplished the quest but they don't need to come home: they are already home. The achievement of the quest (the Sun) revives Earth's wasteland. In bringing Light to wilderness Earth, they also bring Earth to Light, ie restore a genuinely human life there. God and the seventh heaven only seem remote because of our alienation from our real being - a divinely human life on Earth.

form and technique

This is the consummation of the story, the continuing climax, the eternal unravelling. The duality of voices in the entire quest narrative - the main binary division of Dr Who Am I/ Lt Oh Who Ru male/female West/East plus the competing asides which have at certain stages of the journey almost refused to add up is now a single voice speaking to itself. Female and male, past and present (Maid and May king/ made and making) lover and beloved, seeker and sought, pilot and navigator and all other binaries are now One. They always were. The introductory prefixes - including a ghazal-couplet paradox from Asghar and some Western equivalents from Arthurian grail myth - describe this unity that always is and the duality it never was. The main ghazal is single voice multi-tracked as a plainchant, representing the theme of Oneness in manyness. Each formal-passionate ghazal couplet is a variation on that theme. The combination of Ba-ba-ba-ba-ba, triangle and birdsong fading into silence at the end of this track presents this 'final consummation' as a concise musical experience.

The allegory

The black hole in the sun is the separate ego - a formidable and terrifying void finally lost - because it never was - in the Sun of divine being (Love). The West and East/male and female sides of the story represented by Dr Who Am I and Lt O Who Ru (our old friends Adam and Eve) as they follow Agent 00Heaven (our ancestral will to be conscious of our true selves) are as illusory as every other binary. The representation of God-realisation as an achieved quest, a thrilling victory, a triumphant lifting of the grail is 'masculine'(so-called) in genre to emphasise its daring and adventure with the absolute proviso that such a binary term has no meaning for the soul which is beyond gender or the quest which is beyond genre. As this track shows, God is both male and female and beyond both.

lyrics

Six sheets to the wind, all the sheathings of 'I',
Love blows me away, I blink and 'I've' gone...

Sav bar tahira dama ha thon mire aya
Jab ankh khuli dikha apna hi gariban hai – (Asghar)
‘A hundred times I felt that I held your garment firmly in my hands;
When I opened my eyes I was amazed to discover it was my own garment I was holding.'

Who am I?
I am God.
The Winter King. The Fisher King. The Wounded King…
The Mother and Father of Creation.
We’re back where we started! Our real Identity.
We never left. It was all just smoke and mirrors, a mind game.
My mind’s gone. There’s nothing between us...
Oh God! Best feeling ever.
Khush.
‘Khush’?
Happy.

Illumination’s burning Eye has gone, let darkness come,
A slip between the Grail and Lip, a black hole in the sun.

In total Darkness, total Light; in Nothingness, nirvana.
Who dared to love, now lover and beloved love as one.

I lift the Grail, the Holy Grail I always was and am
The musk the deer pursued, the winging moth and flame made one!

A golden rose, a thousand suns, a blaze of brimming light
Now overflows my lip with love: the Earth is stirred and shaken.

Brings Light to Earth and Earth to Light, un-maims the Wounded King,
Unwinter the Grail Maiden’s Eye, makes Maid and May King one.

The quest’s achieved, the Earth shall live, heart’s wilderness is sown
With seeds lost in the fruit it bears, the soul of all is won.

O Who of Whos, your heart has burst and pours on Winter’s Kingdom
Its cornucopic vessel’s rays: Who dared win love – has won!
