Star Teacher 00:43

about

A so last century album, recorded at the millennium, capturing the whole of my life in education as both pupil and teacher up to and including being a Head of Creative Arts/Head of Drama and Second In English Department which is where I was until September 2000, when I became a Head of English. As far as the teaching career goes, almost all under Conservative Governments, so the biggest bogey man you'll find in this record is Chris Woodhead (and what then seemed like aliens from the planet Saturn, Ofsted inspectors.) The horrors and 20 year betrayals (to this progressive lefty at any rate) of Blair, tuition fees and the stultifying Framework for English teaching through adverts, bus tickets and decontextualised bites out of literature do not yet cast the enormous Wizard of Oz shadow they cast in my schooldays novel www.amazon.co.uk/River-Deep-Mountain-Gareth-Calway/dp/190606122X (which reviewers seem to either love or hate*).
The teaching career part of this album breathes a different air. It records is an era when my working week would still end with a hour laughing about it all, however fraught, with my Head of Department/best friend before going home.

released January 4, 2023

Words written and performed by by Gareth Calway.
My guitar stunt man was Les Chappell who also wrote the riffs and produced and generally facilitated the record. And was a blast to work with.

about

Bardonthewire England, UK

Performance poetry with a library card (voice & drum, folk ballads, ghazals, sonnets, beat poems, sound poems, raps) much of it happening 'on the street' or jostling to be heard in the tavern. Researched stories of folk heroes and real folk. History for you. Bardic poetry striving (as all arts do) for the condition of music (from punk though rap to to prog). Visionary lit. for your average Blake. ... more
