Symphony No I in Coal Minor (Allegro)

from It All Comes Out In The Wash (album) by Bardonthewire

about

Symphony No 1 in Coal Minor is more a symphony than a 'symphonic poem' is a poem because it does have (non-orchestral) musical content as well as words but 'symphony' is really a description of how the material is organised. Or, if you prefer, it's me being arty. Symphony No 1 in Coal Minor achieves to the best of my ability a lifelong ambition to arrange once - and for all - my West country/Welsh valley bildungsroman into the four movements of a classic symphony. The first movement here sets out all the major themes; the adagio has another look at them in a lighter funnier mood and then another look in a poignant and elegiac one; the dance movement shakes them all up in a soufflé' and the final movement digests the whole thing with a broken bottle of something heavy.

The 'orchestra' is guitar, voice and percussion and not even all three together until the last movement.

The tile of the allegro is Lennonist Student.

Visionary lit. for your average Blake. ... more
